6 by 6 september 2008: medusas on spirituality
For some of us, babyloss has been spiritually profound, a catalyst for seeking. For others, the experience simply didn't resonate on the level of our faith, or our lack thereof.
This month’s new 6 by 6 kicks off a conversation unlike anything we’ve done before here at Glow—it’s an icebreaker to kick off a spirituality-themed roundtable/blogolympics called Are you there, god? It’s me, medusa.
Starting a few weeks from now, ten babylost women of varied faiths will take over the cabin for a while here at Glow in the Woods. As guest authors, they’ll share with us their stories of how spirituality has affected their path towards healing—hindu, atheist, christian, buddhist, jewish, wiccan and more—and we’ll be inviting you to play along.
For now, let’s all warm up with the new, spirituality-themed 6 by 6 meme. Read our responses and then post the following questions and your answers on your own blog. In your post, link to us. Then leave a comment here with the link to your blog post to share with us. If you’re blog-free, simply post your answers directly in the comments.
(clarification: this is just a reminder post, hence the comments here are turned off--to participate, please go to the actual 6 by 6 page.)
We can’t wait to gather with wine and lava cakes in the cabin, sitting in front of firelight and sharing a mixed pot of faith, visions, doubt, crises and dreams. Join us, won’t you?
Love and peace,
the medusas
1 | Do you feel as though a higher entity/supreme being/energy force has a presence in your life? What do you call it, and what makes you feel it exists?
2 | Describe, in a word or two, the nature of your spiritual self before and then after the loss of your baby/babies.
3 | Do you pray, even if you wouldn’t call it praying? To whom? What for?
4 | Is there a particular line of scripture/teaching/sentiment that you find particularly helpful? Or is there one that’s commonly referred to but is unhelpful?
5 | Did your faith offer rites, rituals or teachings that acknowledged your baby and your healing? If not (or if you didn't seek it out in an organized fashion), what rites, rituals or mantras have you adopted as your own?
6 | Some people say that in a foxhole (a desperate, life-threatening situation), there are no atheists. You’ve been in a foxhole. Discuss.
